Caring for our loved ones is never a burden, but sometimes their care is more than we can adequately do at home. In these cases, sometimes a nursing home is the best place to meet their daily needs. We need to be sure to select nursing homes that are equipped to handle our loved ones personal care. Nursing home supplies should include all of the things that our loved ones require to be kept safe, sanitary and healthy as can be under the circumstances. Sometimes extra medical supplies and care is needed, as when our loved ones have an ostomy that needs tended to.Ostomy wound management requires special care. There needs to be a regular nursing home supply of wound care equipment in order to keep the ostomy site clean and covered appropriately so that the risk of infection is lowered. This may include bags that seal properly over the ostomy site, alcohol pads to keep the area clean, irrigation supplies, protective film, one and two piece belts and other skin care items required to properly care for an ostomy. When a loved one needs an ostomy to help them with any bodily functions, whether they are temporary or permanent, they need to have special care taken to assure that their dignity is kept in mind during care.
Privacy is important and respect for the individual is paramount. Beyond these things, though, proper medical care is very important so that our loved one is receiving the best possible treatment, both for their ostomy site and for their overall well-being.
